In just the first quarter of 2006, digital television sales grew 100 percent according to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronic Association (CEA). Some statistics released from CEA include:
- The industry sold 3.4 billion digital television units during the first quarter of 2006, which is a 101 percent jump from last year's total.
- The industry made $3.6 billion in sales from digital television in the first quarter of 2006.
- More than 35 million digital television units have been sold since digital television's introduction to the market in 2006.
