Florida cities are asking the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to speed up the approval process of the ongoing Adelphia deal. Adelphia had sold its assets to Time Warner Cable and Comcast, but the deal will not be complete until the FCC approves the takeover.
According to the article Florida Cities Desperate for Adelphia Solution, some Floridians believe that the turmoil cause by Adelphia's legal problems have caused those who have Adelphia as their cable provider to fall behind in new technologies. Maurice Jacobson, mayor of South Palm Beach, was quoted in the story as saying "Adelphia's struggles during the years leading up to and including its bankruptcy are well known. During that period, Adelphia's focus seemed to shift from quickly bringing our citizens cutting edge technologies to merely surviving. Unfortunately, those years happened to coincide with the period in which many new applications and services were being rolled out by other cable operators throughout the country." Some residents in Adelphia's coverage area believe that this problem will be solved once Time Warner Cable and Comcast are allowed to take over.
